IBE NY 17 Process: Building DIY A-Frame Ladder Shelves

Last week, I announced Dave & I are going to Indie Beauty Expo NY in a few weeks and I promised to share a few behind-the-scenes peeks at how we're preparing for our first trade show. Here's a look at how we (okay, mostly my Dad) built the ladder shelves we'll be using in our booth!

I am incredibly lucky to have such a supportive Dad who also happens to be an amazing woodworker. His father and grandfather before him were both craftsman, so I guess you could say making is in my genes!

We followed this DIY Ladder Shelves tutorial from A Pair & A Spare. First, my dad cut the wood, we sanded it together, he assembled the a-frames, then Dave and I painted the a-frames and shelves with a coat of Minwax White Wash Pickling Stain to give it kind of a beachy look. I'll be using the stain on some of my display pieces as well, to tie it all together.

Okay, okay, these pictures are totally staged, but I DID really paint. Look at the paint all over my knees! Luckily, this stuff is water-based so it cleaned off easily with water + soap. Plus, it dried quickly and wasn't stinky, so we were able to pack them in the car after letting them sit for about an hour and bring them home to set up in my booth mock-up in the basement:

They came out so pretty!! I can't wait to debut them at the Indie Beauty Expo NY in less than two weeks! TWO WEEKS! Drop by booth B304 to see them in action.
