Tomorrow marks the beginning of Fall, a time for inward reflection and balance. As I began to think over the past year, I realized I’ve made some major changes in my life (for the better) and shed a whole lot of negativity — negative people, negative thoughts. But it’s still something I have to keep working on. The Autumnal Equinox is the perfect time to seek balance. Here is a simple ritual to help you banish negativity and draw in positive energy:
You will need:
- white candle (symbolizes purity, cleansing, and peace)
- clear quartz crystal (for purification and banishing negativity) or opal (for emotional balance)
- small dish of water + spoonful of salt OR my Rose + Sea Salt Hair Spray
Gather your materials in a quiet room in your house and close the door. If you live with others, let them know you need a few minutes of quiet time.
Light your white candle and hold your crystal or opal in your hands. With your eyes open or closed, slowly breathe in and out a few times to center yourself. Then imagine all of the negativity you’ve faced in the last year — all the bad thoughts you’ve had about yourself and others, all the times you’ve felt inferior, rude or hurtful things people have said — and feel the energy of these thoughts course through your body and into the stone in your hands. It’s okay to cry, or feel angry, as long as you’re pouring these emotions into the stone.
Now, mix the salt into your small dish of water and place your crystal or opal into it. Alternately, you can spritz your stone with my Rose + Sea Salt Hair Spray (which I infuse with love + positive energy). Let your stone absorb the cleansing water for a few minutes. While this is happening, look into the candle’s flame and recall all of the positivity you’ve felt in the past year — love, friendship, compliments, laughter — and pull this into the center of your being. Let it fill you with warmth and buoy your spirit.
Dry off your stone. The negativity has been drained from your mind into the stone, and now into the salt water. Pour the salt water outside or down the sink. Negativity be gone!
