Happy Spring! Like the autumnal equinox, the spring equinox is about restoring balance to our lives, which is why you'll probably get an itching to clean this week — get rid of excess things, negative energy (I've got a simple ritual for that here), not-so-great people (have you read my Being Boss blog post about ditching toxic people?), etc. So I have a fun exercise for you to do this week: you're going to spring clean your beauty routine!
Fun fact: Our skin absorbs 60% of what we put onto it. It's pretty much a sponge, and it doesn't discern between good or bad ingredients, which is why you have to. Here's what you're going to do:
- Make a list of every product you use on a regular (daily or every other day) basis. EVERY SINGLE PRODUCT. I'm talking shampoo, body wash, cleanser, lotion, moisturizer/serum, deodorant, perfume... you get the idea.
- Now read the labels. See any ingredients you don't recognize or can't pronounce? List those out, too.
- Are any of the ingredients on my list of 10 Toxic Chemicals to Avoid in Your Beauty Products? Throw out those products immediately!
- Replace your not-so-clean products with clean alternatives. See below to get started.
This guide will help you find clean alternatives to what you're currently using. On the left are popular products — some of which are marketed as natural! — which contain some pretty dirty toxic ingredients. On the right are totally natural, totally clean options from florapothecarie. Want to make your own? Get started with my eBook, DIY Natural Beauty on a Budget.
